Alesis announced last week the release of the Protrack, which according to their press release is the world’s first handheld digital stereo recorder for IPod. This device can be handy for some including up and coming music artists who want to record jam sessions, or university students who want to record lectures.

The Ipod integrated device exterior contains a Universal Dock for IPod, LED signal indicators, and controls for 48V phantom power, limiter, and volume.

The device which can record audio from anywhere with an IPod (5th generation) or IPod Nano (2nd or 3rd generation) has two condenser microphones that are built in and fixed in XY quality configuration for high quality recording. The qualities of the recordings are 16-Bit, 44.1kHz or 22kHz stereo. Some of the perks of the device include a switchable limiter which ensures overload-free recordings, an AC power adapter and the ability to use 4 AAA batteries for up to five hours of operation. It also has two combinations: XLR – 1/4-inch inputs, and 1/8-inch stereo output, and a threaded mount that is integrated for tabletop use on a camera tripod for better recording.

The device will be available through local music stores if you want it. The price however is undetermined at this time.
