Delicious Library 2.0
General Tech, Reviews Comments OffWith all the different forms of media out there, it seems to get harder and harder for us to keep everything in our collections in some form of order. Delicious has the answers for Mac users and is releasing the latest version of their media organization software Delicious Library 2.0.
The new software integrates Core Animation, Mac OS X 10.5′s powerful graphics-processing engine and a little bit of humor on it’s website to draw users to the software. Eye popping graphics, easy sharing and the simple use of an ISight webcam, wireless barcode scanner, or keyboard can add all of your media info neat and orderly to you Mac with ease.
The system requirements are Mac friendly for those users who keep up with the latest by supporting Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) or higher. It also fully supports Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger). However users running Mac OS X 10.2 (jaguar) or earlier will need to upgrade to run the software.
The software offers a lot of items you can organize. They include everything from toys like board games, movies, books, tools, electronic devices, video games and even clothes and jewelry.
The software claims it has no limit on the items that can be added. However it has only been tested for up to 5,000 items and that was on the laptop. Obviously it is going to depend on how much RAM is on your Mac.
There are many features that make Delicious Library 2.0 stand out, and they seem relatively easy to use. If you have some time on your hands, and do not feel like using the ISight webcam or the Delicious wireless barcode scanner you can manually enter library information by typing a UPC, ISBN, or ASIN into the field next to the barcode logo on your media product.
The Web Publishing which can allow you to share your media collection with friends or others out there on the internet. It also has an option to flag certain for privacy so others cannot see those certain private items in your collection.
Delicious 2.0 also offers integration with IPhone and the Ipod Touch. Which can be handy when out at your favorite local music or book store. You can know what you already have so you do not end up buying a duplicate of a book, CD or movie that has been long forgotten.
It is great for University Students as well because it has bibliography integration which can format information for your research using 7 different types of writing source documentation.
If you are like me and loan things to your friends and are tired of not keeping track of what is missing in your collection, Delicious Library 2.0 also offers a check out feature which works a bit like a library. By dragging an item to a person located in your OS X address book, the software automatically adds the information to your OS X calendar with a due date which can remind you to remind them that you actually do want your things back when they are borrowed.
There is also integration with Amazon, which allows you to find the latest value of your items and sell them online. When the item is sold, you will also be reminded of where to ship the item.
Delicious Library 2.0 sells on their website for $40. Purchase is made after downloading the 13MB software and is required while installing the software.
As summer is in full swing Delicious 2.0 seems like an interesting way to do something productive while on vacation this year. It can also help earn some extra money for gas money if you plan on taking to the road this year.
The bad news is however for PC users. There are no plans to make the software available in the future. Delicious states that the software is very dependent on Mac OS X only technologies and that instead of trying to develop new software for PC systems, they would rather invest in improving future versions of the software.
