Developers Are Not Liking Windows Vista and Neither Am I
Rants Comments OffI know… it seems like the worlds most shocking news, but according to a recent report from Evans Data only 8% developers are writing applications for Windows Vista. To pour a little salt on the wound there is other data shows that 49% are writing applications for Windows XP.
Of course, there must be some kind of explanation to this right? The likely blame is market share according to a Net Applications recent report that states that a staggering 72.12% of computers are running XP instead of Microsoft’s latest new OS software. Why is this?
I am likely to speculate one or two factors that could be the solution. Is it the economy and that most people are finding their computers are not a priority, or is it just that Vista is simply awful? My vote is that Vista is simply awful to be honest.
The ITJungle is saying that it is because Vista had a late start, and was missing key features, was not compatible with existing applications, and was just more expensive than XP. All and all it is clear that Vista is just not the best OS out there.
I personally am still loyal to Windows 2000. To me it has been the more stable of any of the operating systems Microsoft has to offer of recent days. It was like pulling teeth to even get me to switch to XP and that was largely because everything was being developed for that OS instead.
I am not the only one either. Mac OS has rocketed 380% as a target platform for developers too. I can understand this as well. I have been sitting on the fence recently about leaving my trusted PC for Mac because well… Mac is just cooler nowadays.
Is it me or has Windows just lost touch? My spouse has Vista (it was forced on them by their company) on their computer and I hate it. It is always crashing, seems to run slower and just takes up too much space. Is it really shocking news that developers have not had an interest? Probably not, I am still naive and have faith. I think they know and are doing what we all are thinking. Vista is a disaster.
