Does the New Psystar Building Exist?

Psystar Headquarters

If you haven’t been living under a rock for the last month, you’ll know there’s a Miami outfit by the name of Psystar that has made the news recently for its offering of Mac clones. Dubbed the Open Computer, the machine is sold with your choice of Windows, Linux, or OS X Leopard. This has raised some heads, as not only may the installation of OS X on non-Apple hardware violate anti-trust laws, but other doubts have been raised about the company’s legitimacy. Now, PC Fastlane has found evidence that the Psystar headquarters shown on their website may not be same building as the one at their reported address.

A few days ago, Psystar changed their address to the following:

PsyStar Corporation
10475 NW 28th St
Doral, FL 33172

One tech enthusiast took a drive to the address and found it really does exist. The problem? Not only did he report a lack of any signs marking the building as belonging to Psystar, but there are some serious discrepancies between the headquarters shown on Psystar’s website and the satellite image of their new address on Google Maps.

Psystar Headquarters

Notice how there is a median with foliage behind the parked cars, and how the building’s overhang extends outward past the exterior wall. This picture was taken straight from Psystar’s promotional video.

Psystar Headquarters on Google Maps

This is a satellite photo of Psystar from Google Maps. Ironically, the location was added by a user, meaning the address was not originally in the Google Maps database. If you look at the picture, you will notice there is no median with foliage. In fact, there appear to be no painted lines for parking spaces. The overhang does not protrude beyond the building’s exterior wall as it does in Psystar’s photo, and if you look very closely at the original and the Google Maps satellite imagery, you will notice that there is a discrepancy in height between the two photos. The building in Psystar’s photo is two stories high. There are at most twelve feet between the overhang and the top of the building. Look back at the satellite photo. Near the middle of the red circle you can see the side of the building and a black overhang. The distance between the overhang and the roof, to my eyes, appears to be quite a bit more than the twelve feet or so it is in Psystar’s photo. To me, the building looks like it is more than two stories.

While it is possible that Psystar renovated their building and the satellite image on Google Maps is outdated, the evidence presented above should still be taken into thought. Even if the building were renovated, it does not make up for the apparent height difference between the building in the photo and the one on Google Maps. So, is the building in Psystar’s promotional video really their headquarters? Hopefully someone from the company will enlighten us.
