Garmin Nüvi 660
Gadgets Comments OffThe Garmin Nüvi 660 was recently rated as one of Cnet’s top five picks of GPS devices. The wide screen travel companion and navigator do have a lot of features, including pre-loaded maps, hands free calling, traffic alerts and FM transmitter.
The Nüvi 660 also offers something that is quite practical for traveling this summer. It has a 4.3 inch display that is sunlight readable.
The device comes ready to use and is preloaded with Garmin’s City Navigator which seems like a pretty cool program. It has information on over 6 million various points of interest from everything like food and drink, local attractions, and even where posts offices are located. It also lets you transport way points, routes and tracks between the Nüvi 660 and your PC.
The Nüvi 660 also has Bluetooth which means you can make hands free calling with the built in microphone and connection to any of the hefty list of compatible phones.
With the FM traffic receiver, it also informs you of any traffic problems that could be on your route. It also offers detour options so you will not have to worry about being caught in the middle of accidents or road construction.
It is also lightweight (6.2 ounces) and small enough (4.9″W x 2.9″H x .9″D) to fit in a pocket, purse or travel bag. And can be used for ground travel for when you are on foot and need to find that post office in some city or town you have never heard of.
Some of the best features are those that have little to do with navigation at all. It is more like an all around device which is handy for travel. It has an MP3 player, and can play audio books if you are a subscriber to Audible.com. All of this can be connected to your stereo in your car’s sound system through the FM wireless transmitter. It also offers features like currency converter, and anti theft devices.
If you are planning on going to a country where you do not speak the language, Garmin also has additional features you can purchase that can translate for you. It also has travel guides for the USA and Europe if you do not feel like carrying a book around while on your trip.
The Nüvi 660 retails for $555.71, the language guide is $74.99 and the travel guide $69.99 for USA and up to $160.70 for Europe. However all can be found on Amazon for a little lower prices at $329.95 (unit), $71.95(Language), and $45.05(Travel Guide USA) and $120.93(Travel Guide Europe).
