Top 10 Wired Colleges A Joke

May 22, 07 by Daniel Foster

PC Mag and the Princeton Review recently published a list of the top 10 wired colleges. To put it blunty, it’s a joke. The article’s goal was to show readers the most high-tech colleges, but it just listed a bunch of well-known schools with mediocre technology (with a few exceptions).

The number one college listed in the article was Villanova University with the number two spot going to M.I.T. Their technology listed in the report was good, but not great. From there, the list went downhill. Such things as a “fully wireless campus”, “lectures available as podcasts”, extensive wireless connectivity”, “student involvement in IT infrastructure”, and “online discussion forums” were mentioned and do not make a university extremely advanced technology wise. A college these days should be expected to be fully wireless, many offer podcasts for download, students fixing computers is nothing new, and any twelve-year-old with an Internet connection and a free web host can create a forum.

Some of the more admirable things on the list included notification of acceptance via text message, not blocking P2P, and a video game rental service.

Here is a complete list of the top 20 colleges on the list:

#1 Villanova University
#2 M.I.T.
#3 Indiana University Bloomington
#4 Swarthmore College
#5 Creighton University
#6 University of Illinois
#7 Michigan Tech University
