Westinghouse Digital Electronics became the first company to give a vote of confidence to Green Plug the universal  adapter that can be used to power laptops, cell phones and other electronic devices by stating that they are committed to using the technology in their products.

With the new Green Plug, the environment is ultimately the winner because the elimination of many toxins that are found with the growing problem of electronic waste. Eletronic waste is one of the fastest forms of waste today in the United States and the problem is not going away any time soon either.  According to the California Intergrated Waste Management Board, some researchers indicate that up to 75% of all old eletronics are in storage because of the uncertainty of how to manage them.

Although Westinghouse is not one of the larger eletronics companies in the world, they should be commended for their efforts in trying to stop this out of control and potentional disaster that is on the horizon.

The Green Plug adapter is also great for companies and consumers to save money. With the elimination of power adapters have to be sent with each product, it could help lower not only costs for companies, but also perhaps lower prices for us when we buy products.

Another great feature can also help eliminate electricity costs as well. The adapters will also shut off the power supply when the device is shut off or finished charging.

Of course not everything is crimson and clover, one of the catches is that we as consumers will have to buy the Green Plug power adapter. The adapter is set to go on sale the first quarter next year and is priced under $100. A price honestly that will probably be low compared to the possible savings we could experience as well as helping the environment.
