The Tamrac ZipShot has got to be the coolest tripod ever. No, really, it’s that awesome. Just like an umbrella, this thing folds up into a small baton and with the release of a cord, the legs fly out to create a 44″ tripod able to support a DSLR camera weighing up to 3 lbs.

How well does it work? I purchased the ZipShot this summer and brought it on a 3-week trip to China. It took up very little room in my checked bag and held my Canon Rebel 450D plus the hefty Canon 28-135 USM lens without problem. Admittedly I was reluctant to venture far from my setup, though. The only downside is a lack of adjustability. Overall, the ZipShot is a good addition to any arsenal for situations where a full-size tripod just isn’t practical.
